The Prairie Dogs got their start in the 1970's during the heyday of District 37. We were mainly a "desert club" back then, and put on a Hare and Hound race in Stoddard Valley. But times change and as the desert got smaller, we branched out and have focused on our Grand Prix since the mid-nineties. We're proud to host our annual GP Event in March of each year at Glen Helen Raceway, where we hold the distinction of having exclusive use for our course, parts of the Regional Park that are otherwise closed to riding all year long.
Our members participate in all event types that District 37 has to offer. We make a presence at Enduros, Desert races, and of course, the GP's Some of our members hold Officer positions in the Big Six and District 37 and we are visible and active in promoting and furthering interests of our sport for both new and seasoned racers alike.
We've had our share of #1 plates and "fast guys", both currently and over the years, but the Club has always been open to racers of any skill and experience level. We are definitely "Quad-Friendly" and we also have several women racers on two wheels and four.
Our camp has an atmosphere of team spirit and we encourage each other to do our best and enjoy ourselves at the same time. We're family oriented with the majority of the kids in their early-mid teens, and adults of all ages. Like any club, there are occasionally a few late night revelers in camp, but the majority of the time we're sacked out early to get a good night's rest before the race.
P-Dogs get together for our annual catered holiday party in December. Throughout the year, you can usually find someone up for a play ride. Meetings are held monthly on 2nd Tuesdays at Katella Grill in Orange, plus a few times a year in the desert. Look for our flag with 3 stripes: yellow-black-yellow and stop in at any race. We welcome prospective new members and we'll treat you like our own.
Be sure not to miss our GP, should be in March. We're Round Two of the Big Six Grand Prix Series and a Best of the West event. It's a fun-filled weekend for the whole family including a Youth program and Pee Wee event. Also, typically under a moonlit Mojave sky in June, we host our extremely fun Night Team Desert Scrambles!
